Concrete Deterioration Mapping
in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
GRPS just completed a job for Blair Duron Construction in Myrtle Beach, SC. The job site was at an oceanside condominium complex in Pawley’s Island. The Engineers on this project were inspecting the concrete for deterioration in all floors of the buildings. The concrete drillers were wanting to locate post tension cables and rebar in the concrete slab. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was scanning through 8” of concrete. The contractor had considered the “x-ray” technology. However, when working around close quarters of the residents, they decided it would be best to use Ground Penetrating Radar.
When the core drillers arrived on-site they were pleased to see our marks on the surface of the concrete slab in regards to their safety. We successfully located the reinforcing steel and post tension tendons in all floors of the condominiums.
Rebar, post tension cables, and conduit mapping were all neccessities for this job. Blair Duron Construction drilled over 20 holes and did not hit one single obstruction in the concrete thanks to the services of GPRS.
