The Preston Services company had plans to install a new electrical run around the perimeter of two large industrial buildings. The purpose of the new electrical run was to place power outlets at every tree for Christmas lights. Preston Services planned to run the new conduit between 18” and 24” deep and were concerned about possibly hitting other utilities near that depth. The alleviate this concern they contacted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. located in Orlando, FL to survey the entire trench line and mark out any utilities that might possibly interfere. This included everything from existing electrical conduits, water lines, sprinkler lines, etc. GPRS has used ground penetrating radar to perform this type of survey on multiple occasions and was confident they could help Preston Services.
On site GPRS surveyed the entire conduit run in 1½ days and marked all utilities on the surface with paint and marking flags. Ground penetrating radar also has the ability to provide depths to the top of the utilities discovered. This proved very helpful for Preston Services as their main concern was anything found within 24” of the surface. By the time GPRS had finished their survey Preston Services was very confident that they could perform their trenching knowing confidently what utilities they might cross. They were very impressed with the services ground penetrating radar was able to provide to their unique situation. They were highly complementary and we at GPRS look forward to working with them again in the future.
