William Powell
Bridge Miami, FL
Ground Penetrating Radar , Inc was contacted
by Gannett Fleming to survey two different pier caps on
the bottom of a major bridge in Miami, FL. Gannett needed
to verify the presence of reinforcing
steel in the pier caps in order to determine
what loads could be placed on the bridge. They also need
a way to do this non-destructively as the bridge is in
use on a daily basis. Gannett felt that GPR
technology would be a great fit for this application.
Chris
Moore, with Ground Penetrating
Radar Systems, mobilized to the site and
completed the requested survey in one day. While on site
Chris was able to verify that the rebar
placement and spacing. The reinforcing steel was mapped
out on the concrete surface of the pier cap for future
reference.
Another
crucial aspect of the job was producing an in-depth report
of the findings on the pier caps. Chris collected all
of the data, compiled it, and produced a report that met
the needs of Gannett Fleming. All in all, ground
penetrating radar proved to be the perfect
technology to accomplish the goals of Gannett Fleming.
Ground Penetrating Radar's ability
to locate reinforcing steel
with precision accuracy and its reliability has yet again
proven beneficial to another satisfied customer.
