The Michigan International Speedway is going to be getting a new sound system makeover this coming season. MIS recently contracted GEM, Inc to install the new sound system that will require both above ground and underground installation. Both MIS and GEM, Inc had concerns about existing underground utilities that may be in the path of the new underground install. GEM, Inc has been a frequent customer of GPRS for many years and fully entrusts GPRS for timely accurate underground utility locating.
Service technician John Kessinger mobilized to Michigan International Speedway within just a couple days notice. The project was going to be fast moving to make sure the new sound system would be ready for upcoming events. The project required several areas both in the grand stands as well as the infield be scanned for underground lines. There was concern over new Nextel underground communication lines in the areas. GPRS was able to locate these lines and several other lines that were not known. One of the great capabilities the GPR has is determining depth of utilities and in this case it was important any existing utilities were below 18 inches deep.
The picture above shows John Kessinger beginning to mark an underground utility found in the infield area of MIS. Identifying a utility being present will help the contractor know to take extreme caution while digging in this area.
