Longboat Key, FL Hurricane
Shutter Installation

Ground Penetrating Radar System, Inc was contacted by Global Hurricane and Safety Shutters to survey the concrete balcony and locate all reinforcing steel that may be hit during the installation of the shutters.  Typically these anchors are set at a depth of 2” and are on 6-10” centers.  Ground Penetrating Radar proved to be the perfect technology to located the rebar and post tensioned cables that may be hit during the anchor setting.

rebar and post tensioned cables

Ground Penetrating Radar provides a real-time image of reinforcing steel in the concrete.  Each sliding glass door was survey in roughly 15-20 minutes with results provided in marker on the tile.  Global Shutters was then made aware that the marks on the surface represent the rebar and post tensioned cables in the concrete and to stay away from them when drilling.
