Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares, FL
Ground Penetrating Radar System , Inc was contacted by Johnson Laux Construction Group to perform Ground Penetrating Radar scans with the intentions of locating unknown electrical conduit prior to saw cutting concrete in the Hospital. Johnson Laux’s concern was that there was potentially conduit intersecting the area they proposed to cut. Chris Moore with Ground Penetrating Radar System mobilized to the site and was able to survey the 25’ trench in about an hour. No conduits were found in the saw cut path; however, conduits were located just outside the area. Johnson Laux can now continue with the saw cutting plans with the peace of mind knowing they had done their due diligence in making every effort to perform this concrete cutting in the safest possible way. In conjunction with ground penetrating radar scanning, Ground Penetrating Radar System used radio detection. This method serves as a double check to the ground penetrating radar as it can pick up live electrical current in conduits.

The project at the hospital had been set back and was on a rush basis with this end of the scope. Ground Penetrating Radar System was able and willing to respond in a timely manner to facilitate the project schedule. A 1500MHz antenna was used on site and all markings were marked in real-time with a permanent marker so they will not wash away. Ground Penetrating Radar continues to be a proven technology for hospital applications as it does not interfere with any other hospital equipment. The power output of the ground penetrating radar unit is a fraction of a standard cell phone. This is a valuable piece of information when considering that generally Ground Penetrating Radar is used in close proximity to patients, MRI’s, and other medical equipment. This is just one more reason to consider GPR when looking to your next hospital project.

Our company performs Ground Penetrating Radar System work at hospitals daily and there is an increasing trend that Ground Penetrating Radar, or concrete scanning, is specified as standard procedure prior to core drilling, saw cutting, or making any penetrations in concrete slabs or walls.
