Brasfield & Gorrie Job
in Downtown Tampa, FL

Ground Penetrating Radar System, Inc was contacted by Brasfield & Gorrie about mapping rebar and post-tensioning cable in a structural concrete slab prior to setting anchor bolts to hold a large piece of art.  There were several conditions that Ground Penetrating Radar System had to account for.  First, the Ground Penetrating Radar survey was to be completed on the ceiling, meaning all scanning was done from the underside of the slab.  We are often asked about our capabilities of running ground penetrating radar on ceilings and vertical structures, and fortunately we are almost always able to accommodate.

Concrete Scanning – rebar and post-tensioning layout

Because our 1500 MHz Ground Penetrating Radar antenna is attached to a small hand cart we are easily able to flip the cart and scan concrete ceilings.  It is a very versatile piece of equipment.  Secondly, the technician and the equipment had to fit through a 3’x3’ square cut into the drop drywall ceiling.  Because of the portability of our GSSI equipment we were also able to accommodate this need.  Finally, the work was being performed in a down town Tampa high rise building and had to be completed on a Saturday.  Again, with an emphasis on customer service this was no issue for the Ground Penetrating Radar System technician.

The work was completed with successfully.  We plotted the rebar and post tensioning grid directly on the bottom side of the concrete.  At that point Brasfield & Gorrie could easily pick a “square” to set their anchors.
