Amore Engineering GPR Project in Orlando, FL

Amore Engineering contact Ground Penetrating Radar Systems to perform a concrete foundation survey.  Amore had been contracted to perform a structural strength analysis for a client who had seen stress cracks forming in their columns and walls.  Amore Engineering was concerned that the columns and walls were not supported by a substantial enough concrete foundation or footer.  They contact Chris with GPRS to discuss what possible Non-destructive testing methods and results ground penetrating radar could provide.  Chris explained that GPR would be able to provide the size of the foundation as well as determine what rebar was contained in the footer.  Chris also explained that this is a common application for GPR and that this type of investigation has been performed on commercial properties and residential properties alike.

On site GPRS surveyed two column areas and two wall areas to determine the size and contents of the concrete foundation.  The results were very intriguing to Amore Engineering.  GPRS was able to determine that the concrete foundation was roughly 24” wide and 12” deep.  They were also able to determine that the foundation contained three pieces of rebar running in the foundation.  These findings were not what was expected and raised concerns for the structural integrity of the building.  Amore was pleased with the results of the survey and were highly complementary of the professionalism and accuracy attained by GPRS.  GPRS then provided a written report of the project for records purposes.  Overall, the project was very successful.

Chris Moore runs GPRS operations in the Orlando, FL Region.  He is based in Orlando, FL and he can be reached at (312)331-2127 or by email at chris.moore@gp-radar.com. Concrete scanning and surveying is a common application performed by the GPR technicians at GPRS.
