Akron Children’s
Hospital
When
The Akron Children’s Hospital needed to make a
1 inch diameter penetration through a concrete roof
without hitting post-tensioned cables, they called GPRS,
Inc. We were able to scan the roof from the underside
of the slab and mark all reinforcing steel on the surface
of the ceiling. The post-tensioned cables were previously
marked on the surface during construction but the hospital
could not afford to trust those marks and risk drilling
through the reinforcing. The Akron Children’s
Hospital chose to use GPR
rather than X-Ray because of the safety of our equipment.
GPR is so safe
that this job was performed approximately 30 feet from
an operating room where a heart surgery was being performed
on an infant at that time. There is no radiation safety
hazard with Ground Penetrating
Radar when working around building occupants
or around sensitive equipment.
GPRS
works at Akron Children’s hospital on a regular
basis, due to its post-tensioned concrete design. Concrete
scanning for the location of Post-tensioning
reinforcing is one of the primary services
our company provides.

Jamie Althauser is the Regional Director
for our operations in the Akron, OH area. He can be
