When anchors needed to be drilled into a concrete tunnel wall to support steam lines at Akron University, GPRS was called to locate the rebar. Ground penetrating radar needs access to only one side of a concrete slab and can locate rebar and all forms of reinforcing or conduit. Depths of rebar can also be provided so that anchors can be drilled to the appropriate depth without damaging any rebar. The rebar was drawn on the surface of the concrete along with depths. The steel plates could then be positioned to be drilled without hitting any rebar.
